Special to the HHES
On April 6, 2017 the Prize Patrol from the Community Relations Office in the Killeen Independent School District set out on a mission to celebrate students who were on track for success.
With support from Josh Welch and the Whitis Foundation, the Prize Patrol was able to surprise 18 middle schoolers with a brand new personal Amazon Fire Tablet.
Without any notice or prior knowledge, the Prize Patrol entered the classroom of each student and showered him or her with gifts, cheers, and a shining moment in the spot light.
Dr. Joseph Welch, Executive Director of Student Services, informed students that “not only are your teachers and school leaders admiring your good work, but district leaders and the community are also noticing the outstanding job you’re doing every day.” The joyful laughter and even tears of some of the students showed their appreciation and pride. Josh Welch encouraged them to continue working hard and making right choices. He challenged their peers to do the same and to keep their eyes open because the Whitis Foundation would return in the Fall with more to give.
