Vino Pizza: Not your typical pizza joint

By Sara Escobar

Vino Pizza, 360 W. Central Texas Expressway in Harker Heights, is a pizzeria experience like no other in the area, it even has a four out of five-star review on yelp! The casual yet intimately spaced restaurant opened in early 2014 and is owned by Younes Halabi along with his brother and business partner, Sam Halabi. The eatery offers a variety of appetizers, salads, paninis, beers and wines, and of course customary pizzas for the local community to enjoy. The brothers came to the U.S. in the 1980s and have been in the food industry for over 20 years; when they first decided to open the pizza joint, their goal was to promise high-quality, unique meals close to home so residents would no longer have to drive out-of-town for good pizza.
What makes Vino Pizza special is the atmosphere, and the quality of the food, says Asia Howard, a server at the restaurant. “We use only the best ingredients and freshest vegetables. It’s not like other pizza places—here it’s elegant, authentic, and a great place to have dinner,” Howard went on to say that she hasn’t been at Vino’s for very long, but she already has a glimpse of how popular the place is. “It gets crazy busy on Wednesday nights; we have deals going on for five dollar pizzas from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.” And throughout the week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a one topping pizza is only seven dollars. Their entire menu is fair priced, their most expensive and most popular pizza, the Village Butcher, is less than 15 dollars. The restaurant even offers vegetarian options as well. Every pizza is baked in a brick oven, which offers a unique taste not often found in the area. The restaurant can hold up to 28 guests, where those dining can sit at a table or at the bar to enjoy the food.
The restaurant is currently operated by manager Jamie Hill, who has worked in the establishment for a little over a year. “Vino’s is not your typical pizza place—we offer more of an upscale feel to what’s in the area. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, it’s just a really great place to come to,” she says.
