The 9th Annual Flavors of Central Texas will be Tuesday, August 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. This culinary event is a highly anticipated annual community event that brings all of the area’s best restaurants, caterers, and bakers together under one roof, which will give attendees the opportunity to try them all in one night. In addition, the event will feature a “Chopped for Kids” contest.

Tickets are $15 in advance and can be purchased at the Greater Killeen Chamber of Commerce or at Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $20. For more information, call Jasmine Suino at 254 526 9551.

Up next is the 8th Annual Caribbean Afr’Am Festival, which will take place the first weekend in August, the fourth through the fifth at Long Branch Park, 1101 Branch Drive in Killeen. It is free to attend and will begin Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. This annual festival is bubbling with Caribbean culture, and promises an exceptional musical line up, including local and international artists, cultural exhibitions, parades, arts, crafts, food and various other vendors.

The festival is brought to life by the Songhai Bamboo Roots Cultural Association, which has been working to bring the tastes and sounds of the Caribbean to the greater Killeen area since 2009. SBRCA is a non-profit charitable organization that strives to promote the culture of African Americans in the Diasporas, West Indies, and other countries. Funds raised from this event will go towards providing high school graduates with various scholarships.

Last but not least, the Chamber of Commerce is inviting business owners to advertise to newcomers in the area with two events. New Teacher’s Showcase, sponsored by First National Bank Texas, is an annual event welcoming new KISD teachers to the area. Businesses are encouraged to participate by being a sponsor or vendor, and the Chamber says it is a great opportunity for businesses to showcase their goods and services. Hood Howdy is a bi-annual event that allows businesses to market their company to Ft. Hood soldiers and their families. It is similar to the New Teachers Showcase in that it encourages businesses to also be a vendor or to provide promotional items for distribution.
