Union Grove Middle School Volleyball results

8th grade

Union Grove Vs. Manor

The 8th grade Grizzly volleyball teams traveled to play the Manor Rams last night.

The Grizzly B team took charge of the match right away and defeated the Rams in two sets 25-9 and 25-3. Top server of the match was Clarissa Gutierrez with 19 points. Keni Moore added 9 points. Others scoring for the Grizzlies were: Jocelynn Deaton 5 points, Kanaiya Blackmon 3 points; Emma Salazar 2 points; Shakira Shackleford 1 point.

The ladies improve their over-all record to 3 – 0.

The 8th grade A volleyball team met up with the Manor Rams who they recently defeated on Saturday in the KISD tournament.The Rams were ready for the rematch and defeated the Grizzlies in the first set 6 – 25. The Grizzlies fought back during the second set playing the Rams point for point but were unable to come home with the win and were defeated 22 – 25. The ladies have a season record of 4 wins and 2 losses. Those scoring for the Grizzlies were Mary Allen with 4 points, Alexandria Cloud and Aryana Martin added 3 points each while Rozalyn Simmons added 2 points.

The ladies will play Eastern Hills on Monday, Oct. 2nd at Harker Heights HS.

7th grade

Union Grove Vs. Manor

The 7th grade volleyball team played against the Manor Rams last night in the Grizzly Den.   The Grizzly Gold Team battled and played with heart to take the Rams in two sets, 25-23 and 25-19. The ladies showed great teamwork to come from behind in the first set and take the win. The second set the ladies continued to battle and play with Grizzly pride to come out on top.  Defensive player of the match was Faith Leveck.  She was also top server with seven points. Ayannie Williams scored six points. Aryam Quiroz served four points.  Laura Pearce and Nevaeh Halback contributed three points each. Judy Irizarry added two points.  Rounding out the scoring was Blessing Laye and Saniyah Johnson with one point apiece.

The Red team took command of the match against the Rams from the start and defeated their opponent in two sets:  25-10 and 25-17. The ladies showed that great Grizzly Spirit throughout the match and had some passes, sets, and spikes. They never gave up and worked together to overcome mistakes and come out on top, showing great hustle throughout the match.  Alicia Mora, Jaliah Evans, and Sakoya Lopez were defensive players of the match. Hitters were Faryn Morris, Kaley Lelauti, and Gloria Iosefo.  Top server was Kaley Lelauti with 12 points. Alicia Mora scored nine.  Brooke Ross and Gloria Iosefo contributed four points apiece. Sakoya Lopez added two points while Nykaela Burks scored one.

Coach Wilson is very proud of both teams and their great attitudes.  The Grizzlies and Coach Wilson would like to thank everyone who came out and supported them in the matches.

7th grade Invitational “A” Tournament 

The 7th grade volleyball team played in the KISD Invitational “A” Tournament on Thursday, Sept 21st  and Saturday, Sept. 23rd.  The Grizzlies met many opponents during the tournament and successfully defeated each of them, giving them the opportunity to play in the championship match.   The ladies came away with the win, crowning them champions of the tournament.

On Thursday, Sept 21st, the Grizzlies took on the Nolan Mustangs.  They defeated them in two sets: 25-6 and 25-13.  Saturday, Sept. 23rd, UG continued tournament play by competing in three matches.  The Grizzlies won against Smith 25-23 and 25-10.  The Grizzlies then continued in the winners’ bracket by defeating Bonham 25-3 and 25-3.  This earned them the right to play in the championship match against the Manor Rams.   The ladies played with great heart, hustle, and teamwork to win the match 25-3 and 25-21, crowning them the KISD A team Invitational Champions.

Throughout the tournament, the ladies showed terrific hustle and teamwork as well as playing with that great Grizzly spirit and attitude.  The Grizzlies had many passes, sets, and spikes in their matches, showing that Grizzly pride throughout. Setters of the tournament were Kaley Lelauti and Gloria Iosefo.  Hitters were Faryn Morris, Jaliah Evans, Kaley Lelauti, and Gloria Iosefo.  Alyssa Cruz, Keona Otis, Olivia Milliner, and Nykaela Burks had great plays at the net also. Defensive standouts were Alicia Mora, Brooke Ross, and Sakoya Lopez.

8th grade Invitational “A” Tournament 

The 8th grade grizzly A volleyball team participated in the KISD Volleyball tournament on Thursday and Saturday.

The ladies lost their first match to Nolan on Thursday, 25-15, 26-28 and 4-15. Top server was McKenzie Mansell with 11 points. Mary Allen served for 10 points. Others scoring for UGMS were Temiya Johnson 8 points, Alexandria Cloud 3 points and Rozalyn Simmons 2 points. Despite the loss the Grizzlies had several pass, set spikes resulting in 2 kills each for Alexandria Cloud and Temiya Johnson.

The Grizzlies took on their next opponent Saturday at Ellison HS. The ladies defeated Lamar MS in 3 sets, 25-16, 19-25 and 15-11. The ladies played their best offensive match resulting in several kills during the match thanks to great sets from Temiya Johnson and Mary Allen and consistent back row passing from Rozalyn Simmons, Jasmine Johnson and Aryanna Martin. Mary Allen had 4 kills, Alexandria Cloud had 3 kills, Temiya Johnson had 2 kills and Trinity Dunn had 1 kill.Top server of the match was Aryanna Martin with 10 points. Mary Allen contributed 9 points. Rounding out the scoring for UG were: Alexandria Cloud 6 points; Jasmine Johnson 4 points; Temiya Johnson 4 points; Rozalyn Simmons 1 point.

The next win moved the Grizzlies in the bracket to play Manor MS. The match once again went to 3 sets with the Grizzlies claiming the victory, 25 –15, 13-25 and 15-8. Alexandria Cloud claimed top serving honors with 12 points. Mary Allen and Rozalyn Simmons contributed 5 points each. Aryanna Martin added 4 while Jasmine Johnson contributed 2 points and Temiya Johnson had 1 point. Defensive standouts of the match were Temiya Johnson and Mary Allen.Kills were made by Evan Fuller, Mary Allen and Temiya Johnson.

Other members of the team are Clarissa Gutierrez, Savannah Seldon, Janae Deauvearo and Nayelis Sanchez.

Coach Dulaney is very proud of the team and their efforts during the tournament. The team and Coach Dulaney want to thank all the students and faculty members who came out to support them.
