Heritage Park Fitness in Harker Heights isn’t just a normal gym. The fitness center is staffed with several personal trainers that hold classes weekly. One class, Training for Warriors (TFW 360) taught by Jessica Davis, has recently received a lot of attention.
“It’s awesome first and foremost. It’s a great way for people to receive training and instruction in a group setting. It’s more of a community feel,” said Davis.
Martin Rooney, who trained the top MMA fighters, created Training For Warriors more than 10 years ago.
“He started thinking this kind of training could make a much bigger impact. So he started focusing on creating this system to change the world a little bit; in order to prevent diabetes, childhood obesity, and stuff like that,” said Davis.
There are over 300 Training for Warrior affiliates worldwide.
“It is a global affiliate with affiliates in Australia, Finland, Kuwait; just all over the place,” said Davis.
Training for Warriors classes are held six days a week at Heritage Park Fitness.
“We hold classes six days a week. We have very early morning classes during the week at 5 a.m. I also have 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. as well as 6 p.m. classes Monday through Friday and a Saturday morning class. Each class is an hour long,” said Davis.
Classes are appropriate for all fitness levels and are recommended for teens and older.
“Our workouts are set up where every exercise is modifiable. I have a lot of people that have knee or shoulder injuries and we can work around it and make modifications. I also have teenagers who come in that are trying to get in shape for their sports. It’s definitely for all levels,” said Davis.
Davis, an ACSM certified personal trainer, has been with Heritage Park Fitness since March 2008. She attended Kansas State University with a major in Kinesiology.
“I was going to go into physical therapy there and then I got started into personal training while I was there. I came down here and found Heritage Park and I haven’t left since. It’s a very special place. I wouldn’t dream of ever leaving this place,” said Davis.
