TBBOR blood drives boosts collection before Labor Day

The Temple-Belton Board of Realtors teamed up with their adopted unit, the 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion to host their annual pre-Labor Day blood drive for Carter Bloodcare.

Typically summer is the time that blood supplies run low as the need for blood rises. Last year, the TBBOR and the 553rd CSSB registered 216 donors, performed 177 procedures and collected 183 units of blood, according to their pre-event press release. Their goal this year was 300 units from their three locations, one in each local community: Temple, Belton and Killeen.
By noon on Thursday, the Killeen Arts and Activity Center and the men and women of the 553rd CSSB had already collected 200 units of blood, making them well on their way to meeting this year’s goal.
In Temple, First Community Mortgage hosted a drive for the members of the TBBOR, friends, family and the general community.
Locally, Schoepf’s hosted the drive for the CCSB Command and general population willing to donate. With a long line left to process, Carter had already collected nearly 40 units at Schoepf’s. Covington Real Estate also partnered up to offer free lunch to donors at Schoepf’s.
Why is donating blood so important? Because one unit of blood can save three lives or up to six babies. Props to all of Thursday’s donors for helping do their part in saving 900 adults or 1,800 babies.
