Operation Safe Shopper celebrates no thefts, assaults

Over the period from Black Friday to the day after Christmas the Harker Heights Police Department had over 1,236 shopper assists and  gave out over 300 book bags and at least that many coloring cards for kids.
The Harker Heights Police Department had their very own Santa who was at Market Heights for about two nights and had over 80 visits from kids.
During Operation Safe Shopper the police department conducted 164 business checks, where they checked with owners of businesses in the commercial areas.
As far as actual police work is concerned, the Harker Heights Police Department responded to twelve parking violations, thirty suspicious circumstances reported and investigated, sixteen motor vehicle accidents and nine arrests of minor altercations.
But, most important statistic was we had zero shoppers that were victims of any theft or assault.
And we had fifty completed surveys of the commercial businesses for after action and that both shoppers and businesses saw the police as positive and encouraging.
