Murder Investigation 400 block of North Amy Lane – Update and Arrest

At approximately 08:36 PM, (Tuesday night), September 5, 2017, Harker Height Police received a call of shots fired with injuries in the 400 block of North Amy Lane.  Responding officers arrived and found a vehicle parked on the side of the road, an unconscious male with a gunshot wound was lying on the ground near the driver side door.  A Harker Heights police officer started CPR on the victim until EMS could arrive on scene and take over.

Investigation reveals that an altercation which started in the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard ended in the 400 block of North Amy Lane with one male who suffered a critical gunshot wound.   The individual was transported by EMS to Baylor Scott and White hospital in critical condition.

An initial investigation for Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon turned into a murder investigation after Jose Antonio Hernandez a 28 year old Hispanic male from Harker Heights, succumbed to injuries and did pass away at Baylor Scott and White Hospital on September 6th, 2017.

Evidence from the investigation revealed the suspect and an arrest warrant for murder was attained and issued by Justice of the Peace Bill Cook with a $1,000,000.00 bond.

At approximately 07:45 pm, (Thursday evening), 09/07/2017, an arrest of the murder suspect was made by members of the Bell County Organized Crime unit and the Harker Heights police.

The suspect was transported to the Harker Heights Police Department where he was booked and held overnight.

The suspect was arraigned Friday morning 09/08/2017 by Justice of the Peace Bill Cook with the $1,000,000.00 bond set.

Larry Leshawn Thomas Jr., a 19 year old black male of Harker Heights, who was arrested for the murder of 28 year old Hispanic male Jose Antonio Hernandez of Harker Heights, was transported to the Bell County Jail on Friday morning 09/08/2017, where he is currently being held.
