Mililani Woods offers affordable, versatile venue

Mililani Woods sits on 11 acres of trees and grass. An environment of peace with some rustic charm located right on the outskirts of Harker Heights and Nolanville. Owners, Dennis and Marcella Ng have used their property to host weddings, celebrations, photography venue, and other special events.
The property was named Mililani, meaning, “praise give thanks,” from Dennis’ Hawaiian background.
“We thought we were supposed to do a bed and breakfast, but God had a different plan,” said Marcella Ng.
The Ng’s decided to provide their beautiful property to be used for celebrations to the public after one of their daughters was married on their property.
“She said, ‘mom, dad, you have 11 acres and you’re wasting 10 and if God gives you something, you don’t waste it, use it for his glory,” said Marcella Ng.
Under the canopy and variety of vegetation that keeps the grounds green year round, are several structures for a variety of events and small or large numbers of guests and themes.
“There is no one particular set up plan for it, it goes all different ways,” said Marcella Ng.
Mililani Woods has been the location for retirements, graduation parties, retreats, reunions, and the 2015 Nolanville National Night Out.
“A little piece of heaven… It’s an unbelievable piece of land,” said Marcella Ng.
The venue provides small and intimate locations such as their Tea Arbor made of cedar with a roof resembling cathedral arches, Liripoe Lane, a walkway lined with liripoe plants that lead to a pergola to their Great Hall, ideal for receptions and provides a well-covered area for when the weather is not ideal.
The tire swing and The Lane, a long walkway covered with arched trees, and lined with Texas wildflowers in the spring, leads guests towards the back of the property to a meadow, often favorite spots for photo shoots desiring a natural backdrop.
“We are a very family oriented business. Our plan was not to take it and become super commercialized. So, you don’t see major advertisements. We didn’t do anything to take it away from being residential… We didn’t want to have to move to be able to do this,” said Marcella Ng.
The Ng’s were able to transform their home to give back to the community by providing an affordable venue, especially for weddings.
The national average of the cost of weddings is over $26,000.
“We hope to always make it affordable so that when they are done saying I do, if they’ve budgeted everything they way they needed to, they can still live life and have a beautiful event and not have to worry about what they’re paying for the next day, and the next day, and the next couple of years,” said Marcella Ng.
Marcella Ng most appreciates what Mililani Woods provides: joy.
“The biggest thing is watching the joy on people’s faces when they come in and see it…We want them to feel like they’ve come home when they’re here,” said Marcella Ng.

Inside the Great Hall, still decorated for the holidays at Mililani Woods LLC just one of the sites at the venue that can be easily transformed to fit the need of the client and event.

Despite the winter season, the grass and much of the vegetation at Mililani Woods LLC is still green and lush on the Liriope Lane that leads attendees to the pergola
