Mayborn Science Theater offers matinee shows on July 4

Special to the HHES

The Mayborn Science Theater, located on the campus of Central Texas College (CTC), will offer matinee shows the morning of Tuesday, July 4 followed by laser light shows in the afternoon. The matinee shows open are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The first show is “Jillian’s Travels: Safari So Good.” The show takes viewers on a week-long African safari adventure with Jillian and her brother, Jack. The audience will travel into the heart of Africa and become immersed in a spectacular world where wild animals seem so close you can touch them. The show is accompanied with story-time activities.

At 11:30 a.m. is “Dinosaurs at Dusk.” This action-packed full-dome animation show gives the audience a close-up view of early Earth and the fantastic animals that once roamed its surface and ancient skies. The show follows the adventures of a father and his teenage daughter as they travel back in time exploring an Earth teeming with the ancestors of modern-day birds – the feathered dinosaurs. Their travels take them through several geologic periods and they hike through rain forests, scale ice cliffs, sail over prehistoric oceans and parachute into a vast sinkhole in their search for the first flying animals.

The laser light show “Space Laser” is at 12:30 p.m. This musical adventure features songs with a science or space theme set to computerized graphics. Featured songs include “Men In Black,” “Kryptonite,” “She Blinded Me With Science,” “Rock Lobster” and artists such as R.E.M. Weird Al Yankovic, Depeche Mode, U2, Journey and more.

More laser lights are scheduled starting at 4:30 p.m. with “Laser Hip Hop.” This favorite laser light show features the hot sounds of some of hip hop’s biggest artists including Timbaland, Lloyd, Kanye West, Fergie and the Black-Eyed Peas.

At 5:30 p.m. is “Spirit of America” a laser light show that takes the audience through the heart of America. The show mixes songs with patriotic and inspiring pieces to evoke applause and tears. The playlist includes “God Bless America” by Celine Dion, “Hoedown” by Aaron Copland, “Centerfield” by John Fogerty, “Standing Outside The Fire” by Garth Brooks, “God Bless the U.S.A.” by Lee Greenwood, a fifties medley featuring various artists and much more.

“Laser iPop” is at 6:30 p.m. The show combines hot tracks from some of today’s hottest artists with futuristic beams of high-energy light. It’s the Mayborn Science Theater’s version of “indoor fireworks” that will overwhelm the senses with sensational lights and color. Featured artists include Justin Bieber, Daft Punk, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and more.

At 7:30 p.m. is “Laser Country” featuring the best of classic and contemporary country music. Featured artists include Johnny Cash, Carrie Underwood, Patsy Cline, Dierks Bentley, George Strait and more.

For the public intending to watch the Fort Hood fireworks display from the CTC campus, several campus clubs will sell food and refreshments from 4-10 p.m. outside the Mayborn Science Theater in front of the Science Center (Bldg. 150). While the public is invited to campus to view the Fort Hood fireworks display, all CTC policies must be followed which includes no alcohol, weapons, fireworks or any other illegal items on campus. Designated parking areas and pedestrian areas will be marked for viewing the fireworks.
