On Saturday, October 7, sportsmen and gun enthusiasts alike gathered at Marksmen Firearms in Killeen to celebrate its first year of business. Dedicated to top-tier service and a passion for gun-use, the Killeen location is one of four total throughout the United States. Marksmen celebrated their one year of operation with hourly giveaways, various all-day specials, gift baskets, free food and games for children—sales were also offered to the public, such as discounted prices on ammunition and revolvers and 10% off of all used guns and optics.

General Manager Chris Kwiatt has been with Marksmen since they’ve opened, and he says his knowledge and love for firearms is what drives him to excel at the business. “We get a lot of retired and active duty military, as well as law enforcement coming in, but outside of that we have plenty of people within the community with a drive to not only learn about firearms, but a passion to use them efficiently as well.” Before managing Marksmen, Kwiatt managed a pawn shop for about seven years. Although he has gained managerial experience over the years, Kwiatt says he’s been a gun-enthusiast since he was a child. Kwiatt went on to discuss his goals for Marksmen as a business and a force within the community. “We really want to get more hands on with what we offer here, as far as offering classes and helping with military. We welcome everyone to come to Marksmen, experienced shooter or not.”

Employee Joshua Estrada also reflected on his experience with Marksmen. “I’ve been working here about three months, and I already like it so much more than working at any big retail chain. We have a sort of family atmosphere here, and we are very transparent with our customers and the business we conduct with them.” Much like Kwiatt, Estrada’s love for guns was fostered at an early age. “My dad was in the military, so I’ve always been familiar with firearms. I’ve been selling guns since I was 18 years old and I really enjoy passing along the knowledge I have to those who come through here.”

The one-year celebration took place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with eight hourly giveaways that included a Ruger Charger 22LR, a 9mm Smith and Wesson Shield, and an FMK 40. Kwiatt says people were camping out in tents as early as Tuesday evening for a chance to snag one of these deals.
