Nine-year-old, Cedric Moultrie is the 2017 Lemonade Day Fort Hood Area Entrepreneur of the Year. Cedric’s A Douse of Lemony Love reported revenue of $3,467 which more than funded his goal of purchasing library books for the new Alice W. Douse Elementary School in Killeen. The initial announcement was made at Lemonpalooza, a celebration held for all Lemonade Day participants, but Cedric is gaining momentum over the summer.

Cedric’s love of reading prompted the goal, and he hopes other children will develop a love of reading as well. The lemonade stand’s namesake, Mrs. Douse, was the first African American female principal of KISD. Over the summer, Cedric and his family have purchased books for the library and plan to recognize sponsors and contributors of his business by printing special labels for the books. Cedric will present the books at the school’s dedication in August.

Cedric attended Lemonade Day University at Metroplex Hospital where he came up with the idea for the books. The following weekend, he assigned everyone in his house a role, to include his parents and brother and sister in the areas of finances, media relations and customer service. He distributed 100 flyers and 5 posters to classmates at school and mailed out donation letters to his family (his investors). He posted his flyer on Facebook and at All American Chevrolet where he set up his lemonade stand on Lemonade Day. He sold Ceddy’s Jumping Juice, regular lemonade, hot dogs with chili, cheese and peppers, and chips.

Following Lemonade Day, participants are encouraged to complete the online business results form and send in pictures of their lemonade stand to enter the Best Stand Contest. The Entrepreneur of the Year was selected based on information submitted in the business results form to include reported business stats, lessons learned and the participant’s Lemonade Day story. Lemonade Day cities across the country will submit their local winner’s story for a chance to have that child selected as the National Entrepreneur of the Year.

Lemonade Day is an educational initiative designed to introduce youth to entrepreneurship. Children of all ages learn to set goals, develop a plan, secure an investor, create a product, make a profit and give back to their community. Lemonade Day is sponsored by First National Bank Texas and Fort Hood National Bank, along with Fort Hood Family Housing, and local sponsors H-E-B and CenturyLink.
