This Sunday, July 16, a local beauty salon will be hosting a first-of-its-kind fundraiser. Located at 220 Commercial Drive, Skin Deep in Harker Heights is a skin-care center, salon and day spa that offers a variety of services–from hair treatments, massages and facials, and even microblading. According to their official website, their mission is “to realize our role as the absolute leader in skin care services, products, programs and education; and to achieve our goals by helping others to improve their lives while always providing honesty, integrity, value and the best service possible.”

The salon is certainly living up to this statement; from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, there will be a fundraiser for the non-profit organization ‘Garden of Hope’, a Central Texas children’s shelter.

Skin Deep is inviting everyone to join them for a “day of fun and relaxing services, food from local businesses, door prizes and silent auction”. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Garden of Hope.

“The organization is very dear to our hearts, and we just want to do anything we can to help them succeed in making the lives of foster children in our area better.” says Stephanie Cloud, a cosmetologist at the salon, and head of the fundraiser. Cloud has been involved with the Harker Heights Committee since February, and has made a commitment to host a benefit for the charity. “We were asked to donate before, and we weren’t able to give what we would have liked. That’s when I decided I wanted to try and give back.” And despite the event being the first of its kind at Skin Deep, Cloud says they have received a surge of support from the community and local businesses. “I’ve never done anything like this before,” said Cloud, “but the amount of support we’ve gotten already is amazing, and I’m so excited to see people come out for the cause.”

Bushes Chicken is donating tea and ice, the Harker Heights Police and Fire Department will be on scene offering tours of patrol vehicles, Texas Roadhouse is providing multiple door prizes including coupons for a dinner for two, and  Cinemark Movie Theatre has donated movie tickets, just to name a few. There will also be a DJ and bounce house for kids.

Many if not all of the services provided at Skin Deep will be anywhere from $5 to $15 off the regular price. A 30 minute massage can be purchased for $30 on Sunday, whereas it is normally $45. Some hair cuts and styles will be $20 instead of $30, and other services such as facials will be offered as well.

“We’re really excited to see people come out and donate, especially because every cent is going towards Garden of Hope. Our computers aren’t even going to be turned on that day.” Cloud says.

Garden of Hope of Central Texas provides emergency shelter, healthy food, transportation, and guidance to children that find themselves away from their homes. When a foster home is not able to accommodate multiple children, a child might be placed anywhere in the state, making it difficult for family members who care for them to be supportive. The organization was born in a desire to meet the constant and growing need of homes and facilities for children in need.
