Local restaurant Bite the Bagel in Harker Heights celebrated four years of business last Friday, April 28. Owned by husband and wife Jim and Sara Januzka, the couple wanted to show appreciation for support from the community by offering meal-deals at their locations.

“Sara and I are very thankful of the support we have had over the years.” Said Jim. Last year, the Januzka’s opened a second Bite the Bagel in Killeen, as well as an East Coast styled pizza joint dubbed as Village Pizza. Both of their newest locations are co-located at 2710 S Clear Creek Road. The original Bite the Bagel, which opened in 2013, is located at 480 Farm to Market 2410.

The meal-deal ran throughout last weekend and included a 14-inch medium cheese pizza from Village Pizza if you spend 15$ or more at their Heights Bite the Bagel.

“My sister and I owned a bagel shop in Michigan,” Jim recalls, “and that’s actually how I met my wife. She was a frequent customer—she came in everyday like clockwork. If bagels were getting low, I would put one aside for her and write her name on it. We married in 1993, and I left the business to join to army.” Jim worked as a field artillery officer, and was stationed, along with Sara and their five children in Korea, Alaska, Japan, Kentucky and Oklahoma before coming to Fort Hood in 2002. “It was always our dream to one day open a bagel shop of our own,” said Jim “and we’ve only improved over the years. Harker Heights has been very good to us.”

Bite the Bagel also offers more than just bagels—the shop aims to offer “affordable, fresh-baked products; quality and health conscious sandwiches made with premium deli meats and cheeses, gourmet coffee, tea, and homemade specialty soups and salads” according to their official website. They also don’t do just the standard toasted bagel with cream cheese; Bite the Bagel offers numerous bagel sandwiches, including a New Yorker that holds ham, pesto, roasted red peppers and provolone cheese on a garlic bagel.

Their hours vary depending on location. In Harker Heights, they are open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday they open at 7 a.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m. At their Killeen location, they are open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the same weekend hours. Lastly, Village Pizza is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
