Kirsten Whiteside and Brittany Bass each knocked in three runs and Bekah Alcozer and Skylar Stewart each homered as the Belton Lady Tigers got back to their winning ways in an 11-1 victory over Harker Heights at Lady Tigers Field last Thursday night.

Regan McIlvenna hit a double in the first inning with one out, putting runners on second and third. Lady Tigers’ starter Alex Wilson worked her way out of the jam with a strikeout and groundout.

Belton’s first inning and Heights second inning were both 1-2-3 affairs. In the bottom of the second,

Alyson Bishoff hit a fly ball that Gillian Pons made an outstanding catch on in centerfield. Alcozer hit a hard grounder to shortstop that was bobbled, putting her on. Stewart dropped down a perfect bunt that she beat at first base, advancing Alcozer to second base. Following a strikeout, Meredith Langford was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bass then singled in Alcozer and Stewart to put the Lady Tigers on the board. On the next pitch, Whiteside tripled home Langford and Bass to increase the lead to 4-0. Beaver singled home Whiteside to put Belton on top 5-0.

With one out in the top of the third, Alyssa Victorian hit a fly ball to the gap in right-centerfield. Beaver made a great diving attempt, but couldn’t come up with the ball and Victorian reached base. A pair of singles by Madison Stanley and Ilvenna to load the bases. A fielder choice knocked in Stanley and got the Lady Knights on the board at 5-1.

Belton responded in the bottom of the third with one out. Alcozer turned on a 2-1 pitch and drove it high over the left field wall for her fifth home run of the season to make the score 6-1. The home run set off a string of six consecutive hits by Alcozer, Stewart, Sidney Holman, Langford, Bass and Whiteside. The hits produced three more runs and gave the Lady Tigers a 9-1 cushion.

Heights was unable to get anything going in the fourth inning. Bishoff led off the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle. Alcozer hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped and Bishoff was thrown out at second. After taking a strike, Stewart hit a line shot over the left field for a two-run homer to make the score 11-1.

With one out in the fifth inning, Stanley reached base for an infield single despite an excellent defensive play by Langford at deep shortstop. McIlvenna grounded into a fielders choice and Brianna Smith grounded out to end the ball game.

Stewart went 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI. Bass and Whiteside each had three RBI. Wilson threw a complete game, scattering a run on five hits, walking two and striking out three.
