The Harker Heights Freshmen Black football team defeated host Round Rock McNeil freshmen 42-28 on Aug. 31 to go 2-0 on the season.
Heights trailed 6-0 after the first quarter and 14-6 at halftime, before outscoring McNeil 36-14 in the second half. The Knights took a 21-20 lead after the third quarter, then outscored McNeil 21-8 in the fourth quarter.
Stacy Brown threw touchdown passes to Ronald Gurley, Damareyo Tittle and Darien Stephens. Nigel Adams rushed for two touchdowns, and Andre Gebhardt rushed for one.
The Knights’ defense forced a fumble and had interceptions by Andre Bowman and Davon Byrd. Julius Emery had the big hit of the game.
Coach Chris Bright said, “The Knights started off slow on both sides of the ball allowing 14 points in the first half while only scoring one touchdown on the offensive side of the ball. After the second half, the offense got rolling, scoring 36 points, and the defense did their part collecting three turnovers. The quartet of Stacy Brown, Ronald Gurley, Damareyo Tittle and Darian Stephens combined for three touchdowns, while the duo of Nigel Adams and Andre Gebhardt ran for three touchdowns.”
The Knights played at Waco High Wednesday night.
