If you’re looking for something more adult-oriented to do this weekend, there will be an annual Spring Sip & Shop at the Pilot Knob Vineyard located in Bertram, Texas. It is roughly a 30 to 45-minute drive depending on your starting route, but the drive is quite scenic, highlighting some of Texas’ natural beauty before arriving at the quaint and picturesque winery. On April 8, from 12 to 6 p.m., Pilot Knob will hold their annual Spring Sip & Shop—there will be no fee to attend other than the typical wine tasting fees, as well as some great discounts during the day, with nearly a dozen local vendors also in attendance.

The vineyard offers four wines to taste and purchase; the grapes used in the process are all grown on site or nearby, making it a truly authentic Texan experience. There is a Chardonnay, Franco Rojo and Franco Rojo Reserve, as well as a Sweet Rosé.

Pilot Knob was founded in 2011 when Craig Pinkley realized he didn’t just care for ‘good’ wine, he also cared about the process to get it there. As a fourth generation grape grower, one could speculate that his passion for great wine was meant to be—he is assisted in his efforts of maintaining Pilot Knob by his wife, Beth Pinkley, and Meghan Brasington, the Tasting Room Manager.

“I found Pilot Knob while living in Killeen, trying to find a quick escape from the busy town to clear my head,” said Brasington. “My husband and I fell in love immediately with the views, the wines, and the owners. Craig and Beth Pinkley were warm and welcoming, we felt like family as soon as we arrived. We joined the wine club and spent a lot of time there—about three years ago I was given the opportunity to work here part time before going full time as the tasting room manager. I have loved it ever since.”

Since Pilot Knob is a little off the beaten path, there is a variety of events held there in order to help draw a crowd. Brasington says there is always a great turn out with their Sip & Shop, so much so they try to done one every Spring and Fall. “Our goal is to have more and more people aware of us, our wine and to enjoy a beautiful day with the vendors. Besides, who doesn’t like to drink wine and shop?” joked Brasington.

The vendors will include Jamberry, Homemade Soaps, Lipsense, Lula Roe, Pampered Chef, Designer Jewelry, Wood Crafts, Local Honey, Local Salsas and much more. There will even be a local food truck from Killeen, La Cocinera, that will serve their esteemed Latin cuisine. Brasington also says there will be live music from 2 to 5 p.m. with a local Austin artist.

Pilot Knob Vineyard is located at 3125 Co. Road 212 in Betram, Texas and is open Thursday through Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. For more information, please call 512 489 2999.
