Meyer chosen to chair CTC trustees
A change has been made at the top of Central Texas College’s administrative governing body.
Mari M. Meyer of Harker Heights has been selected to chair the school’s board of trustees. A board member for 22 years, she replaces outgoing chairman Charles Baggett of Copperas Cove.
“It’s quite an honor and a pleasure,” she said. “There’s not much I plan on doing differently becuase Charles did such a superb job during his tenure as chairman. the main thing I want to do is make Central Texas College more visible. I feel that i can contriube best by bringing more exposure to the college.”
Meyer, who is the wife of former Harker Heights mayor and retired general Stewart Meyer, has been a longtime advocate of education and is without question one of the great architects of higher education in this area.

Class of 2000 celebrates with graduation ceremonies
Bell County Expo Center was nearly filled to capacity with family and friends of 597 Killeen High School graduates.
It could be awhile before the Expo Center is filled with so many people for a high school graduation. Next year, the number of graduating seniors will be dramatically reduced.
Harker Heights and Shoemaker high schools will be opening this August cutting enrollment at Killeen and Ellison high schools roughly in half.
John Choats missed out on graduating from Harker Heights High School by only one year. “I would have been glad to graduate from Heights because it would be a new school, a new emblem and it’s the town where I live. It’s my hometown.”
