HOUSTON – Ten competitors from Twin Wolves Mixed Martial Arts of Harker Heights went to the Atama Open in Houston last Saturday and brought home 11 medals. Three gold medals, three silvers, and five bronze medals were won by eight students.
Leading the gold medal race was instructor Robert “Grey” Tisdale, who competed in the Blue Belt 30-39 year old middleweight division. He won his first match with a decisive arm bar submission. With the help of Black Belt Phil Cardella and Jeremy Hontz, Grey was able to coach and compete at the event.
Eduardo Iturregui took gold in the no-gi beginner, 13-15 year old class after taking bronze in the White Belt division. Eduardo is a sophomore at Harker Heights High School.
Ronnie Paige waited all day to win 1st place in the no-gi heavyweight expert division.
Jeremy Hontz took silver after bowing out to Grey in the Blue Belt 30-39 middleweight division. Jeremy’s daughter, Anna, also won two silver medals in the White Belt 9-10 year old (50-60 lb) division and no-gi beginner class. Jeremy Hontz, Jr., took bronze in the White Belt 10-12 year old division (90-180 lb).
Tessa Fain took bronze in 7-9 year old White Belt division and beginner no-gi. Tessa’s brother, Joel, also took bronze in the White Belt 10-12 year old division. Both Joel and Tessa competed against heavier competitors and fought very well.
