The 8th grade Grizzly volleyball teams hosted the Palo Alto Patriots in the Grizzly Den on October 30. The Gold team finished their season with a victory by defeating the Patriots in two straight games, 25-8, 25-18. Kate Panian had serving streaks of six and five points along with two other points during the match to earn the Top Serving Award with 13 points. Jasmine Deauvearo showed her mastery of serving by serving for nine straight points in the first game to pull the Grizzlies ahead of the Patriots. Other scorers for the team were: Annie Dee Hardy with three points, Catherine Berhardt and Marcella Sveine with two points and Alexis Dunlap and Ryland Phillips with one point each. The Gold team completes their season with an overall record of 6 wins and 2 losses. Their district record is 2 wins and 2 losses. The White team continued their win streak by winning their final home match of the season. They were able to defeat the Patriots in two straight games, 25-7, 25-14. Caitlyn Young had an outstanding night from behind the service line, serving 13 points in a row during the first game of the match. Sydney Maileoi served for seven straight points to contribute to the Grizzly win. Other scorers were: Breonna Copeland and Nicole Eldred with four points each, Jessica Shrope had three, Senovia Field, Lauren Finley and Chole Gleason each had two, and Jordan Denney had one. Eldred, Denney and Caitlyn Young all had one kill each during the match. The White team completes their season with an overall record of 6 wins and 2 losses. Their district record is 4 wins and 0 losses. This fact crowns the ladies as the American Volleyball Division Champions. This honor earns them a place in the 2008 Championship game at Ellison on Thursday, November 13th against the National Division Champion. The Grizzly 7th grade volleyball team took on the Palo Alto Patriots last Thursday. The Gold team played a great match against the Patriots and came out on top. In the first game, the ladies did an outstanding job winning 25-14. In the second game, the Grizzlies started out slow and had to come from behind but pulled ahead with the terrific serving of Tess Rudasill. The excitement continued and the ladies battled point for point, but fell short losing, 29-27. In the third and final game, the Grizzlies took care of business and cinched the win and the match, 15-4. The Gold team finishes their season with an outstanding record of 6 wins and 2 losses. In division play, their record was 3-1. The top server of the match was Rudasill scoring 13 points for the Grizzlies, three of which were aces. Other high scorers were Victoria Moseley and Brooke Guerrero serving 11 points each, many of them aces. Breanna Gelsinger, Lindsey, Galanffy, Jillian Jacko, and Audrey Karcher also contributed points. The White team played awesomely against Palo Alto. They came out with a Grizzly roar and didn’t stop until the Patriots were in their den. Winning in two games 25-14 and 25-17, the ladies showed who was the more dominant team. The Grizzlies showed excellent teamwork, superior serving and terrific hustle. The ladies should be commended for displaying some good passes, sets, and spikes. The White team completes their season with only one loss giving them the exceptional record of 7-1. In division play, they end with a 3-1 record. The Grizzlies hope to be playing in the district championship game pending next week’s divisional results. Top scorer for the game was Chante Mitchell with seven points. Madison Stebbins contributed six points, while Alexis Ridley added five. Other servers for the Grizzlies were Madison Stanley, Angela Dulaney, Emily Cumming, Erin Ott, Jackie Santiago, and Zoey Clyde. Hustle awards go to Chante Mitchell, and Keyauna Billups. Outstanding setters for the game were Erin Ott and Bianca Yerry. Hitters for the match Angela Delaney and Chante Mitchell. No results were received from Eastern Hills Middle School.
