ELENA GARCIA, her daughter, MIRIAM JACOB, and a few other family members, flew to Trenton, Ohio for her great-granddaughter’s graduation. Lauren Thorman graduated with honors from the Edgewood High School and plans to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio this fall.

Lauren, a young lady who has survived cancer, missed three months of school while undergoing treatment and still managed to maintain her high academic standards.

Needless to say, great-grandmother, Elena, and grandmother, Miriam, are quite proud of her.

Congratulations and good luck to BILL GIBSON on his appointment as interim City of Killeen Municipal Judge.

Belated congratulations to several couples who just celebrated their wedding anniversaries: H.B. (Bill) and JEANNIE DAVIS were married on July 11, 1950, so it’s 59th years for them. Bill and Jeannie were married at Jeannie’s home in Temple. They are the parents of two sons, and they have four grandchildren.

And FREDDIE and MAXINE LETTMAN are catching up as they marked their 57th anniversary on July 12. Freddie, originally from Montana, was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington when Maxine was living in Tacoma with her sister.

Her sister’s friend suggested that they arrange a blind date for Maxine and his buddy, who was new on post. That was one blind date that turned out well. The Lettmans have two children and two grandchildren.

On June 20, PAT and BONNIE KERN will be married 53 years.

And practically newly weds in comparison to the others are DOUG and CECILE FOLKERSON, who were married 26 years on July 16. The Folkersons have two children.

Auf Wiedersehen, Arrivederci, Au Revoir, Adios, Aloha, Shalom – be any other name it still means GOODBYE. And so it’s time to say goodbye to Evening Star editor CEDRIC IGLEHART, as this will be his last edition as editor of the paper.

Cedric and his wife, Shandell, their three sons, 17-year-old Collin, nine-year-old Jeremy, and five-year-old Donovan, will be moving to Victoria.

Cedric is going to be the sports editor for the Victoria Advocate, which is a daily paper that covers nine counties in the area.

Since Cedric’s newspaper background had previously been sports related, the new job is tailored made for him. (We must overlook the fact that he’s an Eagles’ fan.)

And keeping sports in mind, Collin has already been practicing with the local school’s football team and has a great chance to start as center this fall.

VACATION LOCATION: Head for the mountains of New Mexico and The Lodge Resort and Spa at Cloudcroft, where cool evenings await you in an area surrounded by the Sacramento Mountains and 215,000 acres of the Lincoln National Forest.

Constructed with a rustic outdoor décor, The Lodge was built back in 1899. A massive fire destroyed the building in 1908, and new owners rebuilt it in 1911. Now it’s 59 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites are a blend of modern, and southwest ambiance with no two rooms alike.

The Lodge offers yoga, message therapy, a fitness room, spa, and swimming pool. There’s also a nine-hole golf course designed in the traditional Scottish format – whatever that means. And 20 minutes, you can drive to visit the International Space Hall of Fame. Then their dining room offers a menu for the most discriminating appetites. Cloudcroft is not too far away and might be worth the trip.
