Pete & Arlys HilliardIt’s time to get acquainted with Harker Heights/Killeen seniors who will be featured once a month in the Evening Star. The term “Senior Citizen” only applies to calendar years and certainly not to those seniors who have a “joie de vivre” and participate in the life of their community. This week it’s PETE and ARLYS HILLIARD, who are honest to goodness native Killeenites, but have lived in Harker Heights for eight years.

Family doctors still made house calls when Arlys was born at home and there was no hospital in Killeen. Pete was born in the country north of Killeen, which is now part of Ft. Hood. He and his family had to move in to Killeen when then Camp Hood purchased the land from them.   Read more...
