Horny Toad gives back to first responders

On Saturday at Horny Toad Harley-Davidson Fort Hood chrome was glistening in the sun and the grill was fired up as smoke was wisping in the air. Fajitas hot off the grill with all the fixings were being served to a special group of people. Horny Toad was providing lunch for all first responders that stopped by, whether they were bikers or not. Local firefighters, police and emergency medical services (EMS) were invited to stop by on their day off or even while on shift, if time permitted.

“One of the ambulances from Harker Heights came out to enjoy the lunch,” said Drew Bierds, General Manager, Horny Toad Harley-Davidson. “They had to go when they got a call to go out while they were here.”

Fire Chief Jack Collier of the Harker Heights Fire Department came with a crew of firemen. The fire department also brought two fire trucks for a static display for the public to explore. One of the firetrucks on display was the new fire engine the department had just received.

“We really appreciate all the Horny Toad did for the firefighters, EMS and police of our community. I had both my trucks out there for everybody to check out. And, it was great for us firefighters to see the cool motorcycles,” commented Collier. “We got to show our new engine off too.”

Horny Toad Harley-Davidson in Temple had hosted the same First Responders Appreciation lunch a couple of weeks ago and wanted to do the same for their Harker Heights store. First responders came to enjoy a free lunch and community members bought a lunch to enjoy with their everyday hometown heroes. Next year Horny Toad plans to do the event again at both stores, only bigger and better.

“Everyone thanked them face-to-face for their service. It makes them feel good and we feel good,” remarked Bierds. “They appreciate what we did for them and we appreciate what they do for us everyday. It gives us a good feeling to show them and thank them for what they do for us.”

Collier mentioned was very thankful for Horny Toad and Drew Bierds and all they did for the first responders.

“Harley-Davidson will be offering a free drivers safety course for all first responders,” said Collier. “That will save them money and keep them safe. That is great of Harley.”
