Heights Farmers Market gearing up for 2013 season

The City of Harker Heights is preparing for the grand opening of its 2013 season. The Harker Heights Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 7 a.m-noon, May-September at the Carl Levin Park, 400 Miller’s Crossing.

The Farmers Market started in 2011 when Heather Cox, Activities Coordinator and former Activities Specialist, Sarah Rodriguez saw a need for local commodities to be sold in the area. Both came from communities that focused on buying local and wanted to bring the same vision to the Harker Heights community. The market opened with 4 vendors and grew to 38 vendors last year. Cox stated that she is hoping for an even greater turn out this year.

The market has made a few changes this year by focusing more on produce. Produce will be sold every Saturday and artisan products will be sold the first Saturday of every month. In addition, the market is hoping to bring local musicians out to play music and offer special programs each month that will focus on the community, such as canned food drives, back to school supply drives and much more.
