Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce hosted its 22nd annual golf tournament fundraiser on Friday at Stonetree Golf Course in Killeen. Participants played the course in a four-man scramble style competing for prizes. There were 32 four-man teams, which made for 128 players in the tournament this year.
“We achieved our goals for this fundraiser. The 20 volunteers were awesome. A great networking experience,” said Gina Pence, President, Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce. “I love the red and black flags we have on the course.”
Golfers had the chance to mingle during the lunch of sausage wraps and hot dogs, provided by Armed Services YMCA as they browsed the items in the raffle. 128 prizes were donated for the raffle from local businesses.
“Thank goodness for the cloud cover and the breeze. Solar Centex is always glad to support. It was nice of the Chamber of Commerce they really know how to partner with businesses and give money back to the community,” said Jennifer Arey.
“Been great overall a lot of support. A lot of businesses donated some awesome raffle prizes. All the money from our raffle goes to our scholarship fund. The chamber ambassadors help tremendously. We put the money we make back into programs and services for our members and events for our community,” said Pence.
Golf carts lined the trail way as they headed out to the scramble. A hospitality golf cart loaded down with drinks, snacks, and cold towels circled the course as well, to make sure all players had plenty to drink to stay hydrated.
“We had a blast! Great that the chamber does this,” said Andy Bass, owner, Bass Electric.
Chances to win prizes on the course were by getting the Keagle Eagle and two Mulligans. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will towards the chamber benefit fund and also toward the chamber’s scholarship fund.
“Can’t wait to do this again next year,” said Alicia Zingalie, volunteer.
Delilah Salas, 6, had the chance to set up her lemonade stand at the tournament and sell her refreshments to thirsty golfers. Salas was the overall winner in “Best Tasting Lemonade” this year at Lemonade Day. One of the prizes Salas won was a year membership to the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce.
“Big shout out to the Stonetree staff, they put on an amazing smooth tournament – a great experience. The YMCA donated the use of their trailer and did the grilling of our lunch. We also invited the Lemonade Day girl her to sell her lemonade,” said Pence.
The National Banks of Central Texas Team won the annual tournament.
