On Saturday, May 6, Fort Hood will hold its annual Color 5K run/walk at Abrams Physical Fitness Center, 62 nd Street and Support Avenue, building 23001. The 5K is sponsored by grocery chain H-E-B, and will take place at 8 a.m.

A color run is unique due to the fact that it’s more than a traditional 3.1 mile run—participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at the mark of each kilometer. White is the best color to wear at the starting line, and goggles or glasses are also recommended for the race.

In the army, there is a strong emphasis on maintain physical fitness. Exercise acts as a stress reliever, confidence booster, and can improve the overall quality of life for the community.

Cost of early registration is $10 for active duty members, dependents, or other Department of Defense affiliates, and $15 for non-DoD. On-site day for race registration is $15 for DoD members and $20 for non-DoD; on-site registration will take place from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. T-shirt purchase is also available with registration. According the hood.armymwr.com, there will be no trophies awarded, as this untimed race is a non-competitive event. Those who wish to participate can register online at hood.armymwr.com or in person at numerous locations on post, such as Leisure Travel Science at, Apache Arts and Crafts, Sprocket Auto Crafts and Sportmen’s Center.
