According to a recent press release by Harker Heights Parks and Recreation, there will be two dog-friendly events in 2017. Parks and Rec invites citizens to bring their dogs and enjoy a day at Purser Family Park for their annual Paws in the Park. This free, fun and dog-friendly event is for all ages and will include activities such as an agility course, pet adoptions, contests, pet services, products and more.

Paws in the Park is one of the many revamped and improved upcoming events for the city. The event will be this Saturday, April 29 at Purser Park, 100 W Mountain Lion from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Citizens who attend will have the opportunity to enter their pet in one of five contests: best trick, best dressed, dog and owner look-a-like, and smallest and largest dog. Free drinks will be provided while supplies last during ‘Yappy Hour’, which is sponsored by Pepsi Beverages Company Killeen. Citizens are also encouraged to bring a new item such as toys or dog food to donate at the Pet Adoption booth, and pet related items and concessions will be available to purchase during the event. Dogs are required to be on a leash outside the dog park fenced area.

Recreation and Events Coordinator, Nichole Broemer, explains how the previously titled ‘Puppypalooza’ has become two separate events. “We have our annual Paws in the Park and our new Pool Paw-ty. We wanted to offer two separate events for our furry citizens with one offered in the spring with contests, vendors and activities, and another at the end of the summer. Everyone has always enjoyed the dog swim at the public pool, and we plan to hold that event Sunday, August 27.” Broemer said.
