Parker earned Best of Show honors for his photograph entitled “Belton.” He also won a Gold award for “Belton” in the Elements of Advertising category. Parker used a photograph he had taken of a landmark building in Belton then edited it with Adobe Photoshop’s adjustment layers such as hue, saturation and levels to create the finished illustration. Parker also won a Bronze award for his illustration of Charlie Chaplin called “Charlie” which he created with Adobe Illustrator using vector art techniques.

Rodriguez won the People’s Choice award for his illustration entitled “Blue” in which he digitally manipulated his drawing of a wolf. To create the piece, Rodriguez first drew the sketch of a wolf then scanned it digitally in to Adobe Photoshop where he recreated it and painted the illustration using a Wacom drawing tablet. Rodriguez also received a Silver award for that illustration in the Elements of Advertising category.

The American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition and was established to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. The local event, which embodies the best in the local market, is the first in a three-tier contest concluding with a national awards competition. Both Parker and Rodriguez will now advance to the district level American Advertising Awards competition.
