CTC named to list of top colleges, universities for the military

Special to HHES

Central Texas College (CTC) was recently designated a top school in the Military Advanced Education’s 2017 Guide to Colleges and Universities. The publication, released earlier this month, measures best practices in military and veteran education. CTC received top ratings in its understanding and support of the military culture and flexibility and achieved high scores in online support, on-campus support and general support. CTC also received a high score for financial aid offerings.
Now in its tenth year of publication, Military Advanced Education’s Guide presents results of a questionnaire of the military-supportive policies enacted at hundreds of institutions including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year, and two-year colleges. This year, schools were evaluated on their military culture, financial aid, flexibility, general support, on-campus support and online support services. Each school’s performance rating by category is represented by an easy-to-recognize dashboard which enables prospective students to quickly target schools that follow best practices in military education, and then put these in context with other academic or career considerations.
CTC was also cited for having a central office designated for handling veterans’ issues and accepting and granting some credits for military training recommended by the American Council on Education CTC’s staff and academic support and its work in the College Credit for Heroes program which offers college credit to military veterans for their military training and experience also contributed to the recognition.
Serving active and retired military and family members for more than 50 years, CTC offers associate degrees and certificates designed for the military student via face-to-face and distance learning options and provides maximum credit for military education and training. With campuses across the continental United States, the Pacific Far East and Europe, CTC also offers classes on ships at sea and online to civilians and the military through the Army´s eArmyU program, MarineNet and the Navy´s PACE program.
Earlier this year, CTC was also named a Best for Vets school by Military Times and a G.I. Jobs’ top military-friendly school. In 2013, CTC was designated a Yellow Ribbon school for providing funding assistance to help students avoid out-of-pocket costs for tuition and fees that exceed the established thresholds under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
The 2017 Guide is printed in the December issue of “Military Advanced Education &Transition,” and is also published in a searchable database online at Students have access to all the survey questions and answers provided by the schools, as well as explanations about critical issues like activation and deployment policies, withdrawal policies, scholarship and financial aid information and important support information.
