What is an ambassador? The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Committee is the welcoming team of our chamber.

The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors are the “face” of the Chamber and thus are charged with extending the hand of friendship to new, current, and future members. A committed team of ambassadors attend ribbon cuttings to welcome new and existing businesses, they are the welcome team at various chamber events and they assist chamber staff in various ways.

Without this wonderful group of volunteers, the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce wouldn’t be able to participate in a lot of the community activities. As the chamber grows, they would like to enhance the ambassador program.

“We are hoping to get the ambassadors more involved in community outreach.” said Gina Pence, President, Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce. “Some of the events would include serving food at USO Fort Hood, visiting our local retirement communities and read to the children at local schools. Volunteers are needed. If you are interested in becoming an ambassador please contact the chamber at 254-699-4999.”

“We are scheduled to serve food at the USO next month for our community outreach. The Chamber is thrilled to give back to our community! We want you to become an Ambassador for Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce.” said Pence.

The USO is a private, nonprofit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to troops stationed stateside and overseas. Fort Hood has two USO locations one on main post across from III Corps and another at North Fort Hood, both locations are always ready to partner with the community and welcome volunteers.

“I have only been in this area for less than a year. I joined the Chamber and became an Ambassador so I could learn more about the community and the businesses in Harker Heights. I am surprised and pleased at the number of ribbon cuttings we have every week indicating the number of new businesses opening up in this area.” said Alan Chitwood, Sr. Vice President, Union State Bank. “Being an Ambassador allows me the opportunity to meet the owners and managers of all those businesses that are opening for the first time or have just decided to join our Chamber. I know the Ambassadors I have talked to are excited to go out into the community and give back, whether that’s at the USO or a local school reading to the children or a retirement home visiting with the elderly.”

The Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce also relies on the Ambassadors to serve as a communication link between the Chamber and it’s members by relaying information to and from members, identifying member concerns, and garnering support for the chamber.

Pence noted. “Without this wonderful group of volunteers we would not be able to participate in a lot of the community activities.”
If you would like to volunteer as an ambassador please contact the chamber at 254-699-4999 or email gina@hhchamber.com.
