Starting in March, residents in Harker Heights can purchase gift certificates valid at any local business in the area. Once the gift certificates are purchased, they can be redeemed at any surrounding business, and those businesses are then compensated 100% of the certificate value by the Chamber of Commerce. Certificates are purchased by consumers at a discounted rate in $10, $25 or $50 denominations, though businesses are reimbursed for the full certificate amount.

IMG_5880This new program will allow the consumer and the recipient to choose where and what they would like as a gift. It promotes local businesses in the area while remaining flexible for those looking to use it. There is no fee for businesses or citizens to participate, the only requirement is that companies must be a member in good standing with the Chamber of Commerce, meaning all annual fees are paid. A full list of participating businesses will be released in March as well.

All gift certificates are numbered, printed in two color ink and embossed with a Chamber seal for authenticity.

“We really want to encourage our local businesses and enforce economic growth,” says Chamber of Commerce President Gina Pence, who helped develop the program. “We want to administer this program as yet another valuable service to our members, and show that we are here to serve and foster success in our community,” and Pence says she couldn’t do it alone. “Our Keepin’ it Local Program is in partnership with KCEN News 6, and without them we wouldn’t be able to launch this promising program and bring it to the public. Another sponsor, National United, is also a brilliant force behind the gift certificate idea. I want to give a special thanks to them,” said Pence, who also pointed out that National United is known formerly as National Bank. “Instead of paying for activation fees on a MasterCard or Visa gift card, you can buy a certificate with us for a discounted rate and still have the freedom to use it anywhere.”

Gift certificates will be available for purchase at Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce, located at 552 Farm to Market 2410 or online at their official website. For more information, call 254 699 4999.
