The city of Nolanville hosted a ground breaking for major improvements to the Nolanville City Park on Feb 16.

The three phase plan designed by Studio Balcones is slated to be completed within three years. The first phase including a Multi-use center, splash pad and playground improvements is expected to be finished by this summer.

Kara Escajeda, Nolanville City Manager said “I’m very excited about the potential for it to be ready for summer so the community can it enjoy it.”

She said the ground breaking was very emotional for her.

“To finally get to the point where we can start the construction part.” Escajeda said, “Getting it started finally is a great relief.”

Phases two and three will include a walking trail and dog park plan.

The park project is being funded by state sales tax on sporting goods through the Local Park Grant Program by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Recreation Grant Bureau, the State of Texas, the city of Nolanville and the Nolanville Economic Development Board.

City Council is considering a 7 year note for $500,000 on March 2nd that would address health and safety concerning streets and drainage.  The note would fund a road that would go through the park and to improve the drainage in that area.

The main area that the city wants to address is the drainage on Elm Street. Elm Street is the center point for Mesquite Street.

“The funds would be used to reconstruct Elm Street and improve drainage for the residents on Mesquite Street,” said Escada. “A new road will connect Mesquite to Dober providing a secondary exit for those on Mesquite Street and improve the Safety of the Park by allowing through traffic.
