The first Athletics Cup for academic and athletic success in the Killeen Independent School District was awarded to the Harker High School Athletic Department.
“We were super excited as a staff to win the inaugural KISD trophy,” Head Coach Jerry Edwards said.
A system was developed for awarding points for academic and athletic success, and each sport receives points based on academic and athletic criteria.
“We have a tremendous coaching staff and fantastic head coaches that push our kids to achieve more in every sport,” Edwards said. “We experienced a tremendous year in our athletic program with numerous district championships, playoff teams, and individual sport advancements.”
At the end of the year, total points are calculated for each campus and the school with the most points is awarded the KISD Athletics Cup. HHHS was the recipient of the 2014-15 award.
“Great to win and be recognized as the best athletic program in KISD for both sports and academics,” Edwards said. “It was also a year of firsts for our high school in boys soccer, wrestling, boys/girls track and baseball.”
The inaugural KISD Cup was awarded at the annual coaches’ inservice.
