A “Back to School Bash” was held Saturday, August 13 at Carl Levin Park. The event was put together by ‘My Tutor and More’, a mentor service that works to help children improve their confidence in achieving academic success. This Back to School Bash was their fourth annual celebration, with over 40 vendors providing food and activities.
The Bash supports the organization’s school supply and backpack drive that benefits the local school districts homeless awareness and response program, or HARP. HARP offers various services for unaccompanied youth or those living in unstable conditions; such benefits include receiving transportation to and from school and eligibility for child nutrition programs.
“Our Back to School Bash is a family event,” said Sibyl, a staff member of My Tutor and More. “We have many local businesses, churches and organizations that have partnered with us all summer as collection points,” Sibyl went on to say that the items collected will be taken to the KISD district office where HARP volunteers will prepare them for distribution during Meet the Teacher week.
The Back to School Bash included children performances, a dunking booth, bounce houses, a foam party, an art bus for viewing, face painting, races and much more. There was a fire truck for children to tour as well as a designated area to donate school supplies.

“We are excited to support the students of KISD that are less fortunate than others. We want to give these children more confidence as they enter the new school year!” Sibyl said.
My Tutor and More was voted best in Central Texas in 2015. The organization strives to provide excellent tutoring and speech services which allow children to be life-long learners. There are educational camps, tutoring sessions, Saturday workshops, and even summer camps. There are also homeschool programs and a pre-school readiness course which targets three to five year olds.
Tutoring sessions will resume in October at their new location on E Stan Schlueter in Killeen. Tutoring takes place Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on how you can assist My Tutor and More, call 254 680 3072.
