On Thursday at 11:30 a.m., A+ Federal Credit Union hosted its grand opening for their new location in Harker Heights. Many local businesses, dignitaries, current members, along with both Harker Heights and Killeen Chambers of Commerce attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new branch is located on 400 West Central Texas Expressway, next to Sam’s Club. The new building was constructed to provide a more personalized and convenient banking experience for its members.
“We don’t have teller lines, we have pods because we want to conduct business with you face-to-face and learn more about you and have great conversations. We think the teller pods that we use are a better way to do that,” said Kelly A.S. Parker, CEO of A+ FCU.
The spacious facility offers video lending, drive thru lanes, a self-serve coin machine, drive up 24-hour ATM, and online banking access in the lobby.
A+ Federal Credit Union was founded in 1949, in Austin. A+ FCU has grown to become one of the leading federal credit unions in Texas, encompassing much of the Central Texas Area and attending to approximately 130,000 members and counting.
“We have members here that we wanted to serve better,” said Dennis Loftis EVP/CFO of A+ Federal Credit Union.
The Harker Heights branch is A+ FCU’s 20th branch location.
“We pretty much stay in the Central Texas area, but this was a part of Central Texas we weren’t in and we saw an opportunity to come and bring our way of banking to (the) Harker Heights and Killeen area,” said Loftis.
A+ Federal Credit Union has deep roots within the education community. Its founding members were teachers and have maintained a strong presence in the education community.
“We do a lot of financial education and we want to make sure the community is aware of their finances and is strong financially,” said Zenda Bennett, CUBDP, business development officer for A+ FCU.
Four of A+ FCU branches are located in high schools and affords scholarships for teachers and students, as well as educational programs. The A+ Education Foundation provides grants for teachers and has given over .5 million in past 10 years to educators in Central Texas, according to Parker.
April 9, 2016, A+ Federal Credit Union invites the community to come and participate in the Harker Heights Community Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their Harker Heights branch.
