CTC College for Kids wraps up with August classes

Special to the HHES

The Central Texas College Continuing Education’s College for Kids program wraps up in August. A variety of classes mixing fun and hands-on learning for youngsters three years to high school-age are still available. Registration is open now for these and other classes:

Creative Cookies (age seven and older): Learn how to make, cut out, bake and decorate homemade sugar cookies. Students should bring their favorite cookie cutter. The class is Friday, August 4 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. The cost is $49

Upcycling: Turning Trash to Treasure (age 5-10): This new class teaches students how to make toys and gifts out of everyday items found around the house. It’s a fun, inexpensive way to foster creativity and resourcefulness as students make toilet paper roll light sabers and plastic bottle robots. The class is Saturday, August 5 from 1 – 4 p.m. The cost is $29.

Let’s Save the Planet (age five and older): Students will learn about recycling, renewable energy, natural resources and get tips on easy actions we can take to help save the planet. The class is Saturday, August 5 from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $19.

Spanish (age 7-13): Students will learn various customs and courtesies along with phrases, numbers, colors, weeks, months and elementary sentence construction for initial conversations in Spanish. The class is Monday through Thursday, August 7-10, from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $45.

French (age 7-13): The class focuses on the alphabet, numbers and basic grammar as students learn the fundamentals of the French language. The class is Monday through Thursday, August 7-10, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $45.

Jedi Academy: In this new class, students learn basic techniques required to make your own light saber and become a Jedi knight. The class is Saturday, August 19 and Saturday, September 2 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. The cost is $39.

Swim Lessons (age three-12): This course offers a variety of lessons based on age. Children ages three to four (must be accompanied by a parent) will learn arm and leg movements, floating and fully submerging their faces in water. The five and older class focuses on elementary water skills, water entry and exit, breath control, submerging, treading water, buoyancy and swimming on front and back. The class for three- to four-year-olds is T/TH. August 15-24, from

5:15 – 6 p.m. The cost is $35. The class for five- to 12-year-olds is T/TH, August 15-24, from 6:15 – 7 p.m. The cost is $35.

Conflict Management (age 14 and older): Teens will develop skills and tools to help them successfully manage conflicts in their environment. The class includes interactive group participation, discussion and learning activities. The class is Wednesday, August 23, from

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $29.
