After a long and dedicated time of working for Harker Heights family owned Heights Lumber and Supply Inc., office manager and head bookkeeper, Sibyl Farris will be retiring Oct. 14.
“She’ll surely be missed. Certainly from me, for seeing her all these years. Most of the time, saying good morning to her when she got here,” said Randy Curtis, general manager.
Farris has been a member of the Heights Lumber family for almost 37 years.
“She’s very much of a person that we can all depend upon, being here daily, being here on time, being someone who has taken off very few days. She’s taken care of sick loved ones. She raised two daughters, a son, grandkids, and a few great grandkids,” said Curtis.
Randy Curtis knew Farris from church. Farris was looking for a job in retail accounting while at the same time, Curtis was looking for a person to fulfill the same role at Heights Lumber.
“It’s a wonderful place. We are very reliable and we’re good people. And we enjoy doing the work we do here,” said Sibyl Farris.
Farris said the best part of working at Heights Lumber was developing relationships with the people she works with every day over the years and getting to know their customers.
Andy Curtis, assistant general manager recalled growing up and hanging around in the store to now working for Heights Lumber, how Farris has always been there and has become a special member of their family.
She has been working here longer than I have been alive. I’ve realized just how valuable it is to have someone like Sibyl who you can trust. I’m so happy to have worked and grown up with her. She’s helped us grow and kept us straight, said Andy Curtis.
Several other members of the Heights Lumber team who have been with the business for over 20 years can attest to Farris’ good character, not just as a fellow coworker, but as a friend.
“She’s a wonderful lady. I’ve seen her go through hard times, but I’ve seen her stand up and hold her own all the way through,” said John Alexander who has worked for Heights Lumber for 25 years. “She’s always been a good friend. She’s always helped me out when I needed something. She’s just been a wonderful woman to work for and have around,” said Alexander.
Farris started working for Heights Lumber approximately three years after their opening in 1977.
“She’s been our right hand lady when it comes to anything that we need to do financially…(I) appreciate everything that she has done and how she’s gone above and beyond for this business and for her position…It’s going to be hard to not have her here. But I wish her the very best and that she enjoys herself,” said Kelly Eakin, sales manager.
Farris is looking forward to helping out at her church more, gardening in the summer, and relaxing at home.
“I’ve enjoyed it very much. Randy is a wonderful boss. I really hate to leave, but it’s time to go,” said Farris.
