Despite the rainy weather on Tuesday, October 31, the Harker Heights Parks and Recreation still managed to pull off a jubilant 12th annual Halloween Hoopla festival. Originally planned to take place at the Harker Heights Community Park, the event was moved indoors at the Stewart C. Meyer Public Library and Activities Center from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The City wanted to invite its citizens to join them for some “spooky fun”. The purpose of the Halloween Hoopla is to provide a fun-filled evening for the youth in the community with a fun, safe alternative to door-to-door Trick or Treating. Games, candy, inflatables, activities, organizations, businesses, and other forms of entertainment were also present. Hundreds of families mulled through the activities center and library, all dressed up for the spook-tacular occasion.

“It seems like a really fun atmosphere,” said first-time goer Megan Loev, “Everyone looks great and happy; my family and I are very excited to be here.”

City employees and volunteers handed out candy to those who attended the event, with merchandise and food also on sale. Photo areas were also available for anyone wanting to capture memories.

“This is our first year attending and we’re having an awesome time.” Said Joi Kiger, who accompanied her six-year-old son, Channing Campbell to the festival.

“My Halloween has been so fun, I love all the candy.” Said Campbell, who dressed in costume as a mummy.

“Last year’s event was a success and we look forward for the event to continue being successful.”, said Nichole Broemer, Recreation and Events coordinator.
